Introduction
On Wednesday 15 November 2023, we hosted the fourth annual Shout Out for SEND Conference at Stoke Mandeville Stadium. The event was planned and led by our Shout Out for SEND Reps, who chose the theme of promoting understanding and acceptance of SEND, with a focus on discrimination and bullying.
Who Came?
All secondary schools in the county were invited and asked to bring students with SEND to share their voice on issues that are most important to them.
The day was a great success with 49 young people from 12 schools in attendance. We also had 21 school staff, and 35 staff from the council so they could hear what is important to young people in Buckinghamshire – totalling up to over 100 people!
What did we do?
During the conference young people shared their voice through:
Discussing and mind mapping the key issues with bullying and discrimination
Sharing what they would like to be different and what they want others to know
Getting creative so others will listen, such as decorating t-shirts and creating posters
