Introduction
Hi, I’m London and I am passionate about sharing my voice to help others and make a positive difference.
At the start of the 2025 a family friend told me about Aylesbury Youth Action. I decided to attend and soon took up one of their projects of being a Young Journalist. Aylesbury Youth Action told me about the upcoming Bucks Youth Summit 2025 and asked me to attend with them as a Young Journalist. Lots of people have told me I would be great at Journalism so I thought I would give it a go and was excited about the opportunity.
How did you find attending the Summit?
We arrived at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre on 10 March 2025 to meet Vicky at the Young Journalists Hub desk. As this was my first time attending the Bucks Youth Summit I was very anxious as I didn’t know something like this event existed!
Vicky introduced us to the other Young Journalists and gave us a briefing for the day. Our task was to go around and take photos to capture people’s experiences and the feel of the event. Brian taught us how to use the camera which was good fun and it was lovely to connect with the other Young Journalists in the same position as me.
I explored the venue and was happy to find quite a lot of information and subjects relating to what I’ve struggled with, and what many other people my age have struggled with too.
What did you enjoy most on the day?
My favourite part of being a Young Journalist has been meeting and chatting to different people and hearing their stories and experiences. I like to understand why people think the way they do and hear different perspectives. In particular, I enjoyed visiting The Mental Health Space and The LGBTQ+ Space. Most importantly people wanted to make a difference.
That day I realised people care which makes me feel less alone and showed me that I have a voice which I never knew I had before.
What have you been up to since the Summit?
Since the Summit I have joined the Youth Voice Executive Committee which is the committee responsible for planning and hosting the Summit for the last three years. My hope for the future is that by sharing my voice and joining this group, I help change things so that people don’t have to struggle as much.
I have enjoyed attending the sessions and meeting new people. It gives me a safe place to share my voice and be listened to, and action is taken.
Hopefully the Youth Voice Executive Committee can host the Bucks Youth Summit next year. If we do, I already have ideas about how we can build on the event. For example making sure we have a wider range/diversity of students from schools.
