Bucks Youth Summit 2025 – The LGBTQ+ Space
About The LGBTQ+ Space 2025
The LGBTQ+ Space provided a safe place for young people to be themselves and share their voice. 29 young people discussed topics around how schools manage LGBTQ+ support and issues and what schools could do to improve ways they approach supporting young LGBTQ+ individuals. Young people also created a digital word cloud answering questions on well-being. Professionals listened to young people and provided information, support and guidance including a Queer All Year Calendar.
The LGBTQ+ Space was hosted by Brighter Futures Together, Aylesbury Community Pride and young people from Over the Rainbow, alongside young facilitators from the Youth Voice Executive Committee.

Activities in The LGBTQ+ Space
Brighter Futures Together
- Created a ‘Queer all year’ calendar including events happening throughout the year
- There was a big mirror with the word ‘QUEER’ written on it. Young people were invited to write words they associate with Queer
Over the Rainbow
- The youth group attended as young facilitators
- Supported young people to bring forward their ideas in each space
- Station where young people could express themselves by making crafts such as bracelets and drawings
Aylesbury Community Pride
- Created a digital word cloud on the big screen in the space
- Young people answered questions and wrote their thoughts around mental health and well-being
- Young people had conversations with facilitators about well-being

So what?
- The LGBTQ+ space successfully provided young people a way to express themselves in a safe and supported environment
- Brighter Futures have created free LGBTQ+ resources, such as a ‘coming out pack’ for young people in Bucks to access support
- Young people were introduced to the LGBTQ+ youth group Over the Rainbow
- Quotes from the ‘QUEER’ mirror were gathered and will be shared with Senior Leadership Team in Buckinghamshire Council with feedback about what the word ‘Queer’ means to young people
