Mental Health for Young People in Care Research Project

Intro to this project

The University of Exeter are inviting care-experienced young people aged 13 – 17 to take part in a short online questionnaire to help researchers understand what matters most and how mental health services can do better.

The survey will close on Saturday 31 January 2026.

Have your say!

We’re asking young people in care to take part in a questionnaire about what’s important in mental health support.

Who can take part?

  • Young people aged 13  – 17 living in England
  • Who are currently looked after or in care

About the questionnaire

The questionnaire won’t take more than 10 minutes.

You’ll be asked to sort some statements about mental health support and choose what feels most important to you.

You’ll get a £5 voucher as a thank you for your time.

What you tell us could change how adults working in mental health research listen to young people in care.

Your answers will be kept private.

There will also be an option to join an online group meeting and help us develop resources after the questionnaire.

  • The research team will be posting project updates on their website.
    • The link to the website will be shared with all the young people that take part.
  • Young people who complete the survey will also have the option to join an online focus group in early 2026. In this group, the research team will share a summary of findings so far.
    • In the focus group, young people and the researchers will work together to explore and create resources on how young people in care can be more involved in research and service improvement.
